NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top telecom companies were down at the close of trading:

AT&T Inc. fell $.42 or 1.2 percent, to $35.21.

Sprint Nextel fell $.04 or .7 percent, to $5.69.

Verizon Communications Inc. fell $.12 or .3 percent, to $44.50.
