NY medical schools report 2,230 new enrollees
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York's 16 medical schools say they have enrolled 2,230 new students this fall, including the second class at Hofstra North Shore's program with 60 students culled from more than 5,000 applicants.
The Long Island school enrolled 40 students in its first class last year.
Information from 11 of the medical schools show 58 percent of the incoming class are women and 2 percent are international students.
Associated Medical Schools of New York, representing all 16 schools, says graduation rates in many of the four-year programs stand at 98 or 99 percent. Annual tuitions range from almost $30,000 to about $50,000.
The School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo says its class of 144 includes 118 New York residents and 26 Buffalo graduates.
