Rains slightly reduce drought severity in Arkansas
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Recent rain that fell across parts of Arkansas last weekend helped to slightly reduce the severity of drought in the state.
The U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday just less than 9 percent of the state in exceptional drought — the worst category. The exceptional drought conditions were reported from north-central into northwestern Arkansas.
The report shows 34 percent of the state in extreme drought and 32 percent in severe drought.
The southern third of the state is rated in moderate drought to abnormally dry.
