Las Vegas airport passenger traffic up slightly
LAS VEGAS (AP) — McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas is reporting a slight increase in passenger traffic in August compared with a year earlier.
Airport data released Friday tallied a little more than 3.6 million passengers for the month. That's up 0.3 percent from August 2011.
Year-to-date, the number of arriving and departing passengers topped 28 million for the first eight months of the year. That's up 1.4 percent.
McCarran is the seventh-busiest airport nationally and 20th worldwide by passenger volume.
International passenger traffic jumped more than 9 percent the second full month after the airport opened a $2.4 billion third airport terminal to handle overseas and some domestic airlines.
Airport spokesman Chris Jones notes three new international carriers — TUI ArkeFly, airberlin and Copa — began flying to Las Vegas this year.
