Allscripts climbs on reports of sale talks
NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. jumped Friday on a report the electronic health records company may sell itself.
Bloomberg News reported Friday that Allscripts is considering a sale and is having discussions with private equity firms such as The Blackstone Group. Allscripts declined to comment on the story.
The Chicago company's shares rose $1.54, or 14.2 percent, to $12.42 Friday. Earlier the stock peaked at $13.17.
Allscripts had a market capitalization of about $1.86 billion at Thursday's close, a figure that grew to $2.13 billion following Friday's movement.
Going into Friday, Allscripts shares were down 32 percent since April 26. On that date Allscripts reported disappointing first-quarter results, cut its annual guidance, and said it had fired company chairman Phil Pead.
