Toyota gives $115,000 for education initiative

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc. has given $115,000 to the United Way to pay for the expansion of an early childhood learning initiative to 10 elementary schools across the state.

The idea behind the initiative is to teach parents how to turn everyday occurrences into learning experiences for their preschool children.

Gov. Steve Beshear and Toyoto Kentucky President Wil James announced the grants during a Capitol press conference on Tuesday.

The money will go to elementary schools in Ashland, Bellevue, Berea, Burgin, Glasgow, Leitchfield, Murray, New Haven, Paducah and Prestonsburg,

The schools will host monthly workshops to share ways for parents to prepare their children to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
