How the major US stock indexes fared on Friday
U.S. stocks pushed higher for most of Friday, driven by recent promises from central banks including the Federal Reserve that they would do more to support the economy. But the Dow Jones industrial average slipped in the last 30 minutes of trading, followed by the Standard & Poor's 500.
The Dow fell 17.46 points, or 0.1 percent, to 13,579.47.
The S&P 500 fell 0.11 point, or 0.01 percent, to 1,460.15.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 4 points, or 0.1 percent, to 3,179.96.
For the week:
The Dow is down 13.90 points, or 0.1 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 5.62 points, or 0.4 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 3.99 points, or 0.1 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,361.91 points, or 11.2 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 202.55 points, or 16.1 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 574.81 points, or 22.1 percent.
