Covidien rose $.14 or .2 percent, to $59.77.

Patterson rose $.25 or .7 percent, to $35.07.

PerkinElmer fell $.10 or .3 percent, to $30.05.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. fell $.01 or percent, to $59.71.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. fell $.16 or .3 percent, to $61.08.

Waters fell $.40 or .5 percent, to $84.69.
