ND potato crop down 14 percent in 2011


FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The Agriculture Department says North Dakota's potato crop dropped 14 percent in 2011 from the previous year.

The state's potato crop totaled 18.9 million hundredweight in 2011.

Planted acres held steady form 2010 to 2011 at 84,000 acres. Harvested acres, at 77,000 acres, decreased 4 percent from the previous year.

The value of potatoes sold from the 2011 crop totaled $153 million, down 12 percent from 2010.

North Dakota's production accounts for more than 4 percent of the nation's total.
