US court dismisses corruption probe against Eni

MILAN (AP) — Italian gas and oil company Eni says a U.S. district court has dropped a corruption probe against one of the company's subsidiaries.

Eni announced the closure of the investigation on Wednesday, two years after it agreed to adopt anti-corruption procedures in a deal with prosecutors.

The probe alleged corruption of Nigerian officials in connection with the installation of Liquefied Natural Gas plants on Bonny Island in Nigeria.

Eni said the decision "definitively concludes" U.S. criminal proceedings against Snamprogetti Netherlands BV, a former indirect subsidiary of Eni and currently a subsidiary of oil service group Saipem, which is controlled by Eni.
