Kroger rose $.29 or 1.2 percent, to $23.92.

Safeway fell $.01 or .1 percent, to $16.36.

Supervalu fell $.05 or 1.9 percent, to $2.38.

Whole Foods Market Inc. rose $.67 or .7 percent, to $98.13.
