McDonald's sales performance so far this year


McDonald's Corp. says a key sales figure rose 3.7 percent in August, as the fast-food chain emphasized the value of its menu offerings amid a challenging global economy.

The increase followed a disappointing performance in July, when the figure came in flat. It was the worst performance in nine years; the figure had grown every month since April 2003, including during the recession.

Here's a look at McDonald's global sales figures for the year so far:

January — up 6.7 percent

February — up 7.5 percent

March — up 7.7 percent

April — up 3.3 percent

May — up 3.3 percent

June — up 4.4 percent

July — flat

August — up 3.7 percent
