2 Norwegians rescued from basket stuck over fjord
OSLO, Norway (AP) — Two Norwegian electric company workers stuck on a cable over a fjord for an entire day have successfully rappelled down to a boat waiting below, the SFE utility said Tuesday.
The workers were stranded over the Nordfjord in western Norway after the basket they had been working in became stuck due to an unknown technical failure.
An attempt early Tuesday to rescue them by helicopter had failed. Local media report that weather conditions were inclement.
SFE said that it did manage to deliver food and water to the two men.
The basket became stuck approximately 1 kilometer (half a mile) from one side of the fjord, which is located south of the city of Trondheim.
