NH congressional delegation protests defense cuts

NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire's entire congressional delegation is joining workers at BAE Systems to protest looming defense budget cuts.

Sens. Kelly Ayotte and Jeanne Shaheen, along with Reps. Charles Bass and Frank Guinta, are attending a rally Monday in Nashua. In July, Ayotte and Sen. John McCain attended a similar event at the defense contractor's Merrimack facility.

BAE employs more than 35,000 workers in the United States, including 4,500 in the New Hampshire area. It is holding the rally along with the Aerospace Industries Association to highlight their importance to the U.S. economy and defense.

A series of automatic, across-the-board cuts will take effect in federal defense and domestic programs on Jan. 2 if Congress does not reach a budget solution in the next few months.
