Neb. town gets grant to create arts center

HASTINGS, Neb. (AP) — Hastings, Neb. will receive a $300,000 grant to help it convert a downtown building into an arts and cultural center.

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development says $507,000 in local money and donations will also be used to create a new performance venue for "The Listening Room."

The local nonprofit has been organizing performances by national musicians in downtown Hastings for more than 20 years.

This project will give the group more space for performances that already attract between 80 and 180 people.

The two-story building will be renovated to create a flexible performance venue with sound and lighting equipment. A catering kitchen and restrooms will also be added.
