Newell Rubbermaid appoints new CFO

ATLANTA (AP) — Consumer products company Newell Rubbermaid Inc. has named Doug Martin as its new chief financial officer.

Martin, 49, has worked for the company for 25 years, most recently as deputy chief financial officer. He succeeds Juan Figuereo, who has served as chief financial officer since 2009 and decided to step down. Figuereo will remain with the company for the next few months to assist with the transition.

The company said Tuesday that Martin will focus on reducing the company's structural costs, while increasing its investment in its brands.

Newell Rubbermaid, based in Atlanta, makes an array of consumer products from Sharpie pens to Goody hair products.

Shares fell 19 cents to $17.74 by midmorning.
