PerkinElmer rose $.13 or .5 percent, to $27.43.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. fell $.22 or .4 percent, to $57.13.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. rose $.62 or 1.1 percent, to $59.41.

Waters fell $.65 or .8 percent, to $79.54.
