Chrysler US sales rise 14 pct on truck demand
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Chrysler Group LLC said Tuesday that its August U.S. sales rose 14 percent on strong demand for Ram pickup trucks.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automaker said it sold 148,472 vehicles last month, up from 130,120 in the same month a year earlier. Chrysler said August sales were the best in five years.
TOP SELLERS: Chrysler sold 25,215 of its Ram pickup trucks in August, up 19 percent from a year earlier. It sold 16,428 Dodge Caravan minivans, up 35 percent from August 2011.
HOT MODELS: Sales of the Chrysler 300 luxury sedan rose 65 percent to 4,668. The tiny Fiat 500 saw an increase of 34 percent to 4,150.
