August Auto Sales: Toyota sales jump 45.6 percent
TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. said that U.S. sales jumped 45.6 percent in August from a year ago, thanks to stronger demand for its cars, pickup trucks and SUVs.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Japanese automaker sold a total of 188,520 vehicles last month, compared to 129,483 in August 2011.
TOP SELLER: Sales of the Camry mid-size car rose 21.6 percent to 36,720 in August, up from 30,185 in the same month a year ago.
HOT MODELS: Sales of the Rav4 SUV more than doubled to 15,685 last month from 6,502 in August 2011. Sales of the Prius hybrid also more than doubled, to 21,111. Tundra pickup truck sales jumped 68.1 percent to 11,347.
