August Auto Sales: Subaru

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (AP) — Subaru of America Inc. said Tuesday that U.S. sales rose 36 percent in August on strong gains for the Outback wagon and the Impreza compact.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Japanese automaker said that sales rose to 28,293 in August from 20,837 a year earlier.

TOP SELLER: The company sold 11,285 Outback vehicles, an increase of 49 percent from a year ago.

HOT MODEL: Sales of the Impreza sedan rose 84 percent to 4,719, although sales of the sportier Impreza WRX fell 15 percent to 681.
