August Auto Sales: Ford US sales rise 12.6 percent
DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Ford Motor Co. said Tuesday that its U.S. sales rose 12.6 percent in August from the same month a year ago on strong demand for its Escape SUV and its F-Series pickup truck.
BY THE NUMBERS: Ford, based in Dearborn, Mich., sold 197,249 vehicles last month, up from 175,220 in August 2011.
TOP SELLERS: Ford sold 58,201 of its F-Series pickup in August, up 19.3 percent year-over-year.
HOT MODELS: Sales of the Escape jumped 36.8 percent to 28,188 in August. Ford sold 19,073 of its Focus compact car, up 35 percent from the same month a year ago.
