Mark Twain House voted favorite Conn. destination

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Mark Twain House in Hartford has been voted the favorite tourism destination in Connecticut by residents and visitors.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced the winner Thursday of the Fan-Favorite "Still Revolutionary" tourism campaign. The Mark Twain House will be featured in an online documentary video on the state's social media channels this fall while other destinations will be promoted through social media and other efforts.

Officials say the campaign is making an impact, with visits to attractions up 6.8 percent, compared to last year.

Officials say Twain's house received the most votes among a group of 10 destinations on Connecticut's Facebook and Twitter pages.

The two-year, $27 million marketing initiative is intended to boost tourism by drawing attention to the state's role in the Revolutionary War and Industrial Revolution.
