SEATTLE (AP) — Jones Soda Co. narrowed its second-quarter loss on stronger sales and lower costs.
The Seattle-based maker of its namesake specialty sodas and WhoopAss energy drinks posted a loss of $459,000, or 1 cent per share, for the quarter that ended June 30. That compares with a loss of $1.8 million, or 6 cents per share, last year.
Jones Soda's revenue rose 7 percent to nearly $5.3 million.
CEO Jennifer Cue said that the company's expense reduction efforts launched at the beginning of the year are taking hold. She said operations are focused on "a more disciplined approach to growing revenues, living within our means, and re-igniting the entrepreneurial spirit of the company."
The company brought Cue, a former chief financial officer and chief operating officer, back to the company in June after former CEO William Meissner and Chairman Richard Eiswirth resigned.
Jones Soda's shares rose 3 cents, nearly 10 percent, to close at 32 cents.
