NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top tools and appliances companies were down at the close of trading:

General Electric Co. fell $.21 or 1.0 percent, to $20.52.

Snap-On fell $.53 or .8 percent, to $65.91.

Stanley Works fell $1.11 or 1.7 percent, to $65.56.

Whirlpool Corp. fell $.55 or .8 percent, to $66.85.
