Ill. gov hints he won't sign gambling expansion

June 04, 2012

GLENVIEW, Ill. (AP) — Gov. Pat Quinn has a message for people hoping he'll approve a major gambling expansion for Illinois: Don't "hold your breath."

The Democratic governor said Monday that he has looked at the bill that would create five new casinos. He says it is "full of loopholes" when it comes to gambling that wouldn't be good for Illinois. Quinn didn't elaborate.

When asked if he would sign it, Quinn said, "I wouldn't hold your breath on getting that bill signed."

His comments at an unrelated event in suburban Chicago aren't surprising.

The Legislature adopted a similar measure last year but never sent it to Quinn because he said he'd veto it.
