NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top telecom companies were down at the close of trading:

AT&T Inc. fell $.27 or .8 percent, to $33.90.

Sprint Nextel fell $.06 or 2.3 percent, to $2.51.

Verizon Communications Inc. fell $.61 or 1.5 percent, to $41.03.
