ComEd, an unit of Exelon Corp., is hoping to improve its communication about storm response with two new tools: an online map and a smartphone application.
The electric utility announced Monday that the new color-coded map on its website should allow customers to more readily find information on power outages.
The map lets customers zoom in on a specific area for details, such as the estimated restoration time and crew status. The utility will update the information every 30 minutes.
The free mobile app for iPhone and Android devices will allow users to report power outages and check restoration status from their smartphones.
Customers can download the application at ComEd's website or by searching "ComEd" at their smartphone's application store.
