The software industry in fact has spawned an emerging dot com sector, and is responsible in large part for its current high powered growth. The strong software sector is now playing parent to the nascent dot com brigade, providing newbies with an edge over competitors. A number of software companies have themselves emerged under a new dot com manifestation. These companies have added to their repertoire of skills by including e-business and e-commerce solutions and expertise, currently the hottest and most in-demand craft both overseas and in the home markets.

India's software titans are now supplying virtually everything -- from animation work for Hollywood films such as The King and I, to 3D imagery used in flight simulators by Airbus industries. On the networking products side, Indian companies are creating products for foreign companies -- from browsers used in wireless phones to e-commerce Web sites.

The dot com wave has also received a vital shot in the arm through the staunch backing of the strong NRI (Non-Resident Indian) community which has spending power of the order of $100 billion.

The Government too is playing indulgent patron. The Government of India's decision to increase Internet bandwidth will enable Internet penetration to rise and it is estimated that the number of domestic Net subscribers may go up from the current one million to 25 million by 2005.

The Internet user base will then jump from the current 4 million to almost 75 million by 2005. This leapfrogging of Internet usage will also happen through cable TV. Already, India boasts a base of 37 million cable TV connections.

The statistics related to India's dot com thrust are impressive by all accounts. It is stated that in 1999, close to 30 percent of e-commerce start-ups in the US Silicon Valley were set up by Indians.

A company making waves in e-commerce and e-business is VisualSoft Technologies Limited. The company's forte is solutions in the areas of B2B/B2C, knowledge management, security solutions, datawarehousing, datamining, wireless applications and net appliances.

VisualSoft has a portfolio of more than 50 COM/DCOM, XML and JB/FJB components for the developer community. Besides, it has developed Web application products aimed at the IT infrastructure markets such as ASPs and intranets/extranets. To augment its global orientation, VisualSoft works in close alliance with world technology giants such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, among others. Its development center in Hyderabad has state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities.
