PETROLEUM at fire-sale price. Recently formed

P) alliances in chemicals and
natural- gas liquids. Refining
investment should raise profits
in 2001.
TOSCO 31 5/8 33 13/16- The biggest, most efficient

TOS) 23 13/16 independent oil refiner. It has
increased earnings each year
since 1994, even in 1998 and 1999
when most refiners were losing
money.
TRITON 39 50 7/8- A pure play in oil that has hit it
ENERGY 12 3/4 big with discoveries in the deep

OIL) water off West Africa. Beginning
production of natural gas off
Thailand's coast.
UNOCAL 35 1/4 39-25 Trading at a discount to other
(
UCL) big independent oil producers.
The stock could jump if the
U.S. Supreme Court upholds
its challenged patent on
reformulated gasoline.
