Resources: For Women Only A good place to network with other businesswomen and gain a voice in Washington is the National Association of Women Business Owners (www.nawbo.org). To find capital, start at the Small Business Administration's Office of Women's Business Ownership (202 205-6673). For face time with a VC, contact the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs in San Mateo, Calif. It's showcasing women-run companies at five Springboard 2000 forums (650 357-0333). For women-friendly bank loans, try FleetBoston Financial Women's Entrepreneurs' Connection (800 225-5353) and the Women's Loan Program at Wells Fargo National Business Banking Center (800 359-3557, ext. 120). Three SBA-backed small business investment corporations are committed to lending to women: Capital Across America in Nashville (615 254-1515), Women's Growth Capital Fund in Washington, D.C. (202 342-1431), and Viridian Capital in San Francisco (415 391-8950). The Angels' Forum in Los Altos (Calif.) (650 857-0700) gets rave reviews from women who say that founder Carol Sands offers invaluable advice. Looking for a woman-led VC firm? International Venture Fund (650 854-0116) in Menlo Park, Calif., is very approachable. So is Inroads Capital Partners in Evanston, Ill. (847 864-2000), which targets women and minorities. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ BACK TO TOP |
