Mergers in Europe's Airlines?

Possible acquirers...

BRITISH AIRWAYS
Dominates Heathrow and is eager to forge an alliance with KLM or another carrier.

LUFTHANSA
Commands German skies. May take over its current allies, SAS and Austrian Airlines.

SWISSAIR
Surprisingly aggressive. Has already acquired control of Belgian carrier Sabena.

...and prey

ALITALIA
Needs an alliance, but it's unclear if anyone can navigate the political and bureaucratic hurdles.

AIR FRANCE
A giant, but it still needs to improve profits and free itself from state interference.

IBERIA
Much improved, but it may not have the critical mass to make it alone.
