Top of the Telecom World

Figures in millions of dollars for most recent 12 months

COMPANY PROSPECTS

CHINA TELECOM It's already the third most valuable wireless
carrier in the world. As the Chinese market
                grows, it will, too.

NETCOM Provides wireless, data, cable-TV, and other
telecom services in the high-growth region of
Northern Europe. But rivals like the lucra-
                tive market, too.

NTT DoCoMo Pioneer of the wireless Web took Japan by
storm. Now it looks to high-speed services
                and overseas markets for growth.

IDT The parent company of Internet telephony
pioneer Net2Phone, it has the backing of
investors such as AT&T. It could set the
standard for the Internet voice market.

SK TELECOM SK helped make South Korea one of the largest
wireless markets in the world. Now the invest-
ments are about to pay off with powerful
                earnings.

NEXTEL COMM. One of the last independent wireless carriers
in the U.S., Nextel is ripe for acquisition.
And its walkie-talkie-like phone feature is
                unique.

VOICESTREAM This wireless carrier is bound to be acquired.
When it is, it could emerge as part of the
next nationwide carrier in the U.S.

SPRINT PCS WorldCom has agreed to buy this nationwide
wireless carrier and parent Sprint. But if
regulators block the deal, someone else will
                snatch it up.

SBC COMM. The Southwestern phone giant is breaking out
of its region with new wireless and Internet
offerings. It faces bruising competition at
                the global level.

WORLDCOM Founder Bernie Ebbers has created the model
for the telecom carrier of the Internet era--
but his vision could be in trouble if regu-
lators block his purchase of Sprint and its
                valuable wireless network.
