Move Over, Graphic Designers CATEGORY: SILVER -- MICRONPC -- Designer: frogdesign CATEGORY: SILVER -- FROGWEB2 -- Designer: frogdesign CATEGORY: BRONZE -- CONTINUUM WEBSITE -- Designers: titanium electric and Design Continuum Product designers are starting to have a big impact on Web-site design. Their value added? Working in three dimensions, focusing on functionality, and understanding more about people's cognitive behavior. Until recently, the Web was an arena dominated by graphic designers. But this is changing--part of the evolution of Web sites from cool places for the young and hip to a serious business marketplace for the rest of us. Frogdesign's MicronPC site is self-revealing to customers, allowing them to order PCs easily over the Net. Navigation and sliding controls give customers a 3-D perspective of how they are configuring their PCs. As they add or subtract features--by pushing the control across the screen--the figure that shows the cost of the PC rises or falls accordingly. The information design of MicronPC.com is well-executed, as is frogdesign's own site, which highlights the evolution of its work. Design Continuum's Web site avoids techno-madness and takes a quiet, low-clutter approach that doesn't scream. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ BACK TO TOP |
