All in the Family

THEGLOBE.COM
You can set up a private ''club'' for your family to have real-time chats and post photos. Join preexisting clubs to find missing family members, chat about parenting, or learn about adoption.

ANCESTRY.COM
Research your family tree. Membership is $5 a month. A sister site, MyFamily.com, allows you to set up a free family Web site in less than a minute for posting info and e-mail. Another, FamilyHistory.com, provides free message boards for long-separated family members to seek one another out.

VZONES.COM
Create an ''apartment'' in one of its two virtual worlds--VZconnections and Dreamscape. Choose avatars--made-up cartoon personas--to represent each family member. Move your characters around in imaginary settings and chat away. VZconnections costs $9.95 for six months. Dreamscape is $9.95 a month.

PHOTOPOINT.COM
Post family photos on private Web pages for your kin to see. Or make a ''slide show'' with background music, voice commentary, and fancy visual stuff, like dissolves and wipes.

LIFE.COM
People who buy the $69.95 My Life software package can post their multimedia life story on a free, private My Life Web page for family members. Relatives can contribute audio tapes, photos, and video for the collection.
