Remaking Airbus

What the partners must do

OVERHAUL STRUCTURE:
Forge a single corporation with one management team out of a loose alliance of four partners by the end of 2000. Airbus will be at the core of a European defense company formed through cross-border alliances.

ENHANCE PRODUCTIVITY:
Rationalize purchasing and manufacturing and bring costs down. Seek lowest-cost suppliers around the globe.

DEVELOP NEW PRODUCTS:
Launch a superjumbo commercial plane that seats 550-600 to compete with Boeing's 747 aircraft. Pack new models with technology to boost operating economy and passenger comfort.
