| INTERNATIONAL -- ASIAN COVER STORY
Steve Chang, CEO, Trend Micro, Taiwan (int'l edition) STEVE CHANG IS A HACKER'S WORST NIGHTMARE. When the Melissa virus hit the E-mail world in March, Chang rallied his teams of virus-killers in Japan, California, and Taiwan, and posted a fix within hours. The quick action lured a slew of new clients-including General Electric Co. with a $1 million deal, Trend's biggest ever. Chang, 44, a south Taiwan native, has energy and good humor to burn. It's plain he loves his work. He likes to think his company is making the world a safer place for E-commerce. ''We are the E-doctor,'' he says. ''We give people peace of mind.'' The former Hewlett-Packard Co. software engineer developed a software device in the mid-'80s to protect against pirating. When he later sold it, he realized there was a market in computer security and started Trend Micro. Profits are projected to grow 80% this year, to $16 million, on sales of $115 million. With some 15,000 viruses roaming the world's networks, the E-doctors can only thrive. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |
