Office Color for Less INEXPENSIVE COLOR INKJET PRINTERS, which have been wildly popular among consumers, are becoming more and more attractive as small business printers. Manufacturers are responding by coming out with new models. The Lexmark Z51 Color Jetprinter, $279 after a $50 rebate, is a good example of the new breed. Lexmark has long focused on text quality--a traditional weakness of inkjets--and the Z51 comes close to laser printers. The printers also feature a paper-feed mechanism, borrowed from Lexmark's lasers, that is less prone to jamming than most inkjets. Print speed is up to 10 pages per minute in black and five PPM in color. The $249 Canon BJC-6000 is another capable printer for home or office use. It's a bit slower than the Lexmark, at eight PPM monochrome and five color, but offers a larger paper capacity. Both the Lexmark and the Canon can connect to a computer using either a standard serial port or the newer universal serial bus, though the Canon requires a $69 USB adapter. But the Canon works with both Windows and USB-equipped Macintoshes, while Lexmark is Windows only. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ BACK TO TOP |
