How Companies Fight Back Against Hate Sites GETTING THERE FIRST As a defensive maneuver, many corporations now buy the URLs for their name followed by the word ''sucks.com.'' MAKING NICE Some companies try to figure out why the creator of the hate site is angry, then apologize and take steps to fix the problem. TELLING THEIR STORY Nike and Unocal have defended themselves against charges of Third World misdeeds by creating Web sites telling their side of the story. LITIGATING As a last resort, many companies have tried suing hate-site creators.
