For Adams Express, BUSINESS WEEK rating, B+; Category, Large-cap Blend; Risk, Low; Assets, $1,687.6 million; Expense Ratio, 0.39%; Net Asset Value return, 23.4% for 1998, and an average 25% a year for 1996-98; Fund Shares return, 19% for 1998, and average 22.6% for 1996-98; and Yield, 1.8%. The fund was in the top quartile of equity funds for 1996, 1997, and 1998. During 1998, the fund shares traded at a discount to net asset value that ranged 13% and 18%.

For Tri-Continental, BUSINESS WEEK rating, B+; Category, Large-cap Blend; Risk, Low; Assets, $3,912.5 million; Expense Ratio, 0.60%; Net Asset Value return, 25.9% for 1998, and an average 24.3% a year for 1996-98; Fund Shares return, 26.3% for 1998, and average 25.1% for 1996-98; and Yield, 1.6%. The fund was in the top quartile of equity funds for 1996, 1997, and 1998. During 1998, the fund shares traded at a discount to net asset value that ranged 13.9% and 20.7%.
