How Will Illiterates Manage Their Retirement Portfolios? (int'l edition)

Gary Becker (''Uncle Sam should stay away from Wall Street,'' Economic Viewpoint, Feb. 8) and other advocates of privatizing Social Security ought to take the opportunity to visit their nearest Social Security Administration (SSA) office. They will find that the SSA has to allow for retirees who are unable to sign their names on their Social Security applications.

I look forward hearing to Becker's suggestions on how such people are to manage their retirement portfolios. I suspect that even highly educated university professors would not necessarily have the financial sophistication to weather an extended bear market. After all, stock market growth cannot exceed earnings growth forever.
