| INTERNATIONAL -- READERS REPORT
Mobil's Indonesia Record: Two Critical Views (int'l edition) I was surprised that BUSINESS WEEK was so concerned about the tiny province, Aceh, in Indonesia (``What did Mobil know?'' Asian Business, Dec. 28). It was a cowardly act to eliminate local people for the sake of natural resources awarded to a multinational company, preying on an ancient separatism. May I suggest that multinational companies that engage in rural exploration in Indonesia also consider the native people's welfare and education? By doing so, the company can reduce the level of resentment and at the same time create opportunity for them. Irwan Ibrahim Jakarta I was engrossed and horrified to read ``What did Mobil know?'' (Asian Business, Dec. 28). We have had an inquiry going on since last November, when our Prime Minister Jean Chretien greeted former President Suharto with open arms and there was a melee between the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and university students, the former pepper-spraying the latter so the Indonesian thug wouldn't be embarrassed. I plan to send the article to our Prime Minister so he can be updated on the vile dictator and be alerted when he welcomes other dictators to our shores. Bert J.
