DON'T OVERLOOK INDIA'S ECONOMIC ROLE (int'l edition)

''Report Card on Asia'' (Asian Cover Story, Nov. 23) was well-timed. But I disagree with the exclusion of India from the universe. India has a population of 1 billion peopleohenry and its market capitalization is the region's third-largest (Japan and Hong Kong are bigger). Its doors may not be as wide open as those of Thailand, and its policies and bureaucracy are harder to deal with. But per capita consumption for practically all products is at 5% of developed markets--and that indicates an upside.
