KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE CHIP (int'l edition)I found ''Silicon eyes'' (Science & Technology, Oct. 12) very informative. Our artificial retina chip is the imaging processor found in the ''remarkable'' Nintendo Game Boy camera you featured. Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has developed an artificial retina chip that replicates many of the functions of the human eye, and it is inexpensive enough today to enable Nintendo to ship 800,000 Game Boy cameras. Your story also mentioned that ''a further advance in imaging chips should occur next year.'' Next year is already here with the Mitsubishi artificial retina chip.
