Fixing Faulty Joints

Electrothermal arthroscopy uses radio waves to tighten loose ligaments in a joint. Here's how it works:

-- The surgeon inserts a probe through a small incision into a joint, such as a shoulder.

-- High-energy radio waves radiate from the probe's tip, heating the tissue.

-- As the temperature approaches 150 degrees F, the collagen fibers in the tissue contract and firm up the joint.
