THE FUTURE SHOCK OF LOW-PAYING JOBS

Thank you for ''Gen-X gets short-changed'' (Economic Trends, May 11). The Schrammel study also mentioned the employment shift from goods-producing to service-producing industries (which typically pay less) and the jobs lost in occupations vulnerable to automation. With these trends projected to continue to 2005--when the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 70% of all new jobs created will be in the lower-paying trade and services sector--where is the concern about falling compensation for a majority of workers?
