DELL: YOU CAN'T GO TOO FAST

NEVER ACCUSE DELL COMPUTER Chief Financial Officer Tom Meredith of missing a chance to point out Dell's ultrafast manufacturing and distribution. On Apr. 2, rushing to a conference call with money managers, he was nabbed by police. ''I got caught speeding and received a ticket,'' a sheepish Meredith told Ashok Kumar, PC analyst at Piper Jaffray Cos. ''That should tell you we really believe in velocity here.'' Meredith knows speed pays: His shares in Dell are worth $57 million. Kumar began new coverage of Dell--whose stock is up nearly 300% in the past 12 months--with a buy recommendation.
