CORPORATE MARKET
Microsoft has launched a marketing blitz, striking up alliances with 4,500 corporate software vendors. Result: The company claims it grabbed 50% of corporate networks installed in 1997.

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS
Germany's Siemens signed on to use Microsoft's Windows software in devices such as automobile computers and mobile telephones. Partnerships are also being discussed with Ericsson, Nokia, and Philips.

THE INTERNET
The market share of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser has jumped to 60% in France, 58% in Britain, and 54% in Germany, compared with 40% worldwide.
