A SCREENSAVER FOR WOULD-BE SKI BUMS

CAN'T WAIT TO HIT THE slopes? Seattle-based Cylogic Inc. has come out with a handy screensaver just in time for ski season. The 1997-98 Ski Area Screen Saver CD-ROM features 57 trail maps of resorts across North America, from Aspen to Attitash. A toolbar lets you click through the maps until you hit your favorite resort. Or, play with the settings and have different trails rotated on a periodic basis.

The coolest feature, though, is the Snow Report Ticker. Just follow the instructions to download the ticker from Yahoo! Inc., and you'll get updated reports on ski conditions delivered right to your PC screen. That way, you can stay abreast of what effects El Nino is having on your favorite spots. You can also configure the ticker to display general-news headlines, along with ski reports. The $19.95 screensaver is available from Cylogic by calling

1-800-CYLOGIC or on its Web site (www.cylogic.com). The Ski Area Screen Saver runs on Apple Macintoshes and Microsoft Windows PCs, but--sorry Mac fans--the ticker feature is available only to Win95 users.
