How Otis' Odyssey Elevator Works

In Otis Elevator's Odyssey system, new cabs, called Transitors, can go sideways as well as up and down. That means people won't have to change from one bank of elevators to another, no matter how tall a building is. The sidestep shuffle also ends the need for long banks of elevators by enabling multiple cabs to operate in one liftway. Building owners will like that, because elevators occupy up to 20% of a building's space. Finally, the horizontal jogs don't have to be short -- they could stretch outside, to the parking garage in a nearby building.
If you can't see the animations you need to download the Shockwave plug-in.
