Sun's CounterthrustAFFORDABLE SERVERS Sun has just begun shipping a new line of Enterprise 450 servers, priced at $14,650 to $60,000, that will compete with the Windows NT servers used in corporate departments. Sun is also bundling packages of lower-cost software tailored for such markets as financial services, government, and telecommunications. MOVING UPSCALE Sun offers mainframe-class servers powered by its own Sparc chips, which will run at speeds of 600 Mhz by mid-'98, double the speed of Intel's current chips.
